Muhammad Ali's Gentle Statement Today on Being a Muslim Reminds Me Why He's 'The Greatest'

Muhammad Ali responds to Trump and calls ISIS ‘misguided murderers’

Today Muhammad Ali released a gentle statement regarding a presidential candidate's proposal to ban Muslim immigration to the US. Of course, unless you've been under a rock the last couple of days, you know that the condemnation of Donald Trump's ignorant proposal has been condemned loudly by everyone with a fully functioning brain. Despite this, Trump's poll numbers continued to climb among Republican voters.

Ali's statement in response to Donald Trump's proposal to ban Muslim immigration to the United States:

I am a Muslim and there is nothing Islamic about killing innocent people in Paris, San Bernardino, or anywhere else in the world. True Muslims know that the ruthless violence of so called Islamic Jihadists goes against the very tenets of our religion.

We as Muslims have to stand up to those who use Islam to advance their own personal agenda. They have alienated many from learning about Islam. True Muslims know or should know that it goes against our religion to try and force Islam on anybody.

Speaking as someone who has never been accused of political correctness, I believe that our political leaders should use their position to bring understanding about the religion of Islam and clarify that these misguided murderers have perverted people’s views on what Islam really is.

As RT reported: This is not the first time Ali has defended Islam from terrorists, either. In a scheduled Reader’s Digest interview on September 11, 2001, he said that the perpetrators of that morning’s attacks in New York and Washington were not true followers of Islam.

“I am angry that the world sees a certain group of Islam followers who caused this destruction, but they are not real Muslims. They are racist fanatics who call themselves Muslims, permitting this murder of thousands,” Ali said in the interview, as cited by the Washington Post.

What the hell is going on in America? Up here in Canada this evening the country awaits the first planeload of Syrian refugees with open arms and tears of joy. The new Prime Minister - Justin Trudeau - is among the crowd at Pearson Airport in Toronto to greet the new arrivals...and i mean among...Trudeau is walks among the people up here not like an Emperor but like everyone else. i am an American citizen, an x-pat, i've lived in Canada since '69 when i chose not to allow the Empire to use my body in it's racist, imperial war in Vietnam.

i have never been more proud of, or thankful for, being allowed to enjoy the sanctuary of Canada than i am this evening as, along with many others, i watch [on TV], wait and feel the genuine goodness of the people here in Canada. And i have never been more ashamed of, or worried about the future of the America i left behind all those decades ago.

Ali is one of my biggest heroes, he stood up to the bigots and war mongers, he inspired thousands of young Americans to stand up, including me, as well. Ali will go down in history as simply 'The Greatest'. Donald Trump will go down in history as an insignificant loser, a blip.
